Her Majesty’s Royal To-Do List

Felt inspired to post the current to-do list. Cut out bits that are done, or which are completely indecipherable. They are loosely ordered by priority.

Alpha 4 (early Sept 2011)

~ Make retreating robust

- planets captured by the enemy cannot be recaptured for some reason

~ Zooming the camera is sloppy, you should get an exponential zoom factor that gets lesser the more you zoom in and vice versa.

- colliding in the heal area of a planet should cause a capture, not the influence colliding with the planet

- ships should cancel move orders when capturing a planet

- Restrict attacks to within arcs

- Squads should turn to engage others in their influence until they are inside the arc

- Directional damage

- Directional morale loss

- planets lose capture progress if not actively being captured

- SHIP COLLISION (cannot be pushed to backlog): ships need to respect each others’ space. Do this either at a ship-by-ship level or a squadron level. A bug that is easy to notice, confusing, and breaks the feeling of territorial control via ships because ships themselves do not exclusively take up space.

        - move orders should check a squad’s sphere of presence. Adjust orders to be performed at the edge of this sphere.

        - while a squadron is within another’s presence, ships will try as hard as possible to avoid (using side thrusters as well) the center of the adjacent squad’s sphere. This should probably suspend the current order in queue. Test what happens when a lot of squads start to get in each others’ way.

        - On Enter squad_presence, suspend move order and side-thruster to the closest point where no collision will happen.

        - On Exit squad_presence, resume move order

        - Test with lots of squads running into each other

- Fade in/out transitions for arcs, heal areas, (damage indicators?)

- 1024x768 support

- Meaningless auto-generated captain names based on cultural firstname + surname

- If you focus while multiple fleets are selected, average the point in between them

- 60 degree increment firing arcs
